Saunders Beach Road runs off the Bruce Highway and leads directly to the beachfront, with residential streets branching off on both sides through established tropical gardens.
Homes at Saunders Beach are a genuine mix — some original fibro beach shacks from the 1970s and 1980s sit alongside modern rendered homes with pools and landscaped yards. The older elevated homes are compact and tricky to move from, with narrow doorways and steep stairs. The newer builds are more removal-friendly with wider entries and ground-level access, though the blocks are still larger than typical suburban lots.
The single-road access via Saunders Beach Road means all truck traffic enters and exits the same way. This is rarely an issue given the low traffic volumes, but during school holidays and long weekends the road can see more recreational traffic heading to the beach. Moving Day in Saunders Beach
Saunders Beach is about a 35-minute run up the Bruce Highway from Townsville. We turned off at the Saunders Beach Road exit and drove through to a property about 400 metres back from the actual beach. The home was a three-bedroom block-and-tile from the early 2000s on a large, flat block with a double carport and a Colorbond shed out back.
The owners had done a good job preparing — everything was boxed, the fridge was defrosted and the garage was sorted into keep and dump piles. That kind of preparation makes a massive difference to how fast we can work. Our three-person crew started on the house while I staged items from the shed on the driveway.
The furniture was standard — three bedroom suites, a large leather lounge, a glass-top dining table that needed blanket wrapping, and a flat-screen TV on a wall mount that we removed and boxed. The shed had a workbench, garden tools, a whipper snipper and about eight boxes of bits and pieces.
Loading took three hours flat. The drop-off was a unit complex in Cranbrook — ground floor, covered car park right outside the front door. Unloading took about 90 minutes. Total job was just over five hours. Saunders Beach moves run smoothly when the customer has prepped well, and these owners were some of the most organised we have worked with.

Defrost the fridge the night before.
Fridges need at least 12 hours to fully defrost and dry out. Saunders Beach moves involve a highway trip, and a defrosted fridge is lighter, cleaner and does not drip water through the truck onto other items.
