Housing in Currajong is a solid mix of 1960s and 1970s lowset brick homes and a few remaining elevated timber homes on the higher ground near Bundock Street. The brick homes have the typical North Queensland layout — three bedrooms off a central hallway, an open kitchen-living area and a carport or single garage on the side. Block sizes are generous by today's standards, often 800 square metres or more, which means sheds, workshops and accumulated outdoor furniture that all need to go on moving day.
Currajong's residential streets are wide and quiet with minimal through-traffic, making truck access one of the easiest in inner Townsville. Bundock Street on the northern edge carries some commuter traffic during peak hours but the internal streets like Glendale Street and French Street are dead-end or loop streets where we can park the truck right at the front gate. Moving Day in Currajong
Currajong moves are relaxed compared to the busier inner suburbs. We arrive at seven, park the truck on a wide, empty street and start loading through the carport. These 1970s brick homes have good-sized doorways and flat, level access — no stairs, no tight corners, no lift bookings.
The challenge in Currajong is always the shed.
