Nome's Local Moving Specialists

Nome is a semi-rural locality south of Townsville that appeals to people looking for space, privacy and a country lifestyle within commuting distance of the city. The area is characterised by acreage properties, hobby farms and larger rural-residential blocks set among open paddocks and bushland. Residents are typically families who want room for kids, horses and dogs, tradespeople who need space for workshops and equipment, and retirees who have traded suburban living for the peace and quiet of the bush. Nome is not a suburb in the traditional sense — it is a spread-out rural community connected by a network of sealed and unsealed roads south of the Bruce Highway.
Properties in Nome range from modest older homes on 2 to 5 acre blocks to larger homesteads on parcels of 10 acres or more. Housing styles include older Queenslander-style timber homes elevated on high stumps, brick-and-tile builds from the 1980s and 1990s, and newer steel-frame kit homes. Many properties have extensive outbuildings — machinery sheds, horse shelters, workshops and water tanks — that contain items requiring relocation. Driveways can be several hundred metres long, gravel surfaced and gated, which requires careful planning for truck access.
Nome is accessed from the Bruce Highway via Nome Road and connecting rural roads. Many of these roads are sealed but narrow, with no kerbing and soft gravel shoulders. Driveways to individual properties are often long, unpaved and may have cattle grids or locked gates. Our crew assesses each Nome property individually during the quoting process — we need to know the driveway surface, length and any obstacles before we determine the best truck size and approach. In most cases, we park the truck as close to the house as the driveway allows and use trolleys for any remaining distance.
Nome's rural-residential properties require a different approach to suburban moves. Our crew assesses every property individually, plans truck access for long or unpaved driveways and allocates time for the outbuilding contents that are standard on acreage properties. We handle the full range of Nome moves — from modest homes on smaller blocks to large homesteads with multiple sheds and significant volumes of equipment. Our team is experienced with rural access challenges and brings the right gear to keep your belongings protected on rough driveways.

Moving Day in Nome
Nome jobs require planning that starts well before the truck leaves the depot. We discuss your property access during the quoting process — driveway length, surface type, gate access, how close we can get the truck to the house. Some Nome properties let us drive right up to the front door; others need us to park at the gate and trolley everything along a gravel driveway.
The houses themselves vary widely. Older timber Queenslanders on stumps need our stair equipment and extra care navigating steep steps. Newer kit homes are usually ground-level with good access. The real variable in Nome is the outbuildings — sheds packed with workshop gear, ride-on mowers, horse gear, camping equipment and all the accumulated tools of rural life. We load the house first, then work through the sheds systematically.
A 3-bedroom home in Nome with one shed takes about five hours with a two-person crew, factoring in the driveway access and outbuilding contents. Larger properties with multiple sheds may need a full day or a three-person crew. We strap everything tight for the drive out — the gravel driveways can be rough and we do not want anything shifting. The run back into Townsville takes twenty to thirty minutes depending on where in Nome your property sits.

Send us photos of your driveway and property access.
We need to see your driveway surface, length and any obstacles like gates or cattle grids before we can plan the truck approach. Send photos during the quoting process so we can allocate the right vehicle and equipment.
Inventory your shed contents before moving day.
Rural sheds accumulate a lot of gear. Do a thorough inventory and decide what is coming, what is being sold and what is going to the tip. This prevents costly time spent sorting through shed contents on the day.
Arrange water tank and bore equipment separately.
If you have water tanks, bore pumps or irrigation equipment that needs to be disconnected and moved, arrange a plumber or electrician to handle disconnection before our crew arrives. We move the physical items once they are disconnected.
Check the access road after heavy rain.
Some Nome roads and driveways become soft or impassable after heavy rain, particularly during the wet season. Let us know the condition of your access road if there has been recent rainfall so we can assess whether our truck can safely get in.
