Julago is one of Townsville's newest residential growth areas, located south-east of the established suburbs and developed from the mid-2010s onward. The suburb is characterised by brand-new housing estates with modern project homes, young families and first-home buyers taking advantage of the relatively affordable land prices. The estates are still expanding, with new stages being released and construction ongoing in several pockets. Julago attracts a younger demographic — couples with small children, defence personnel from nearby Lavarack Barracks, and professionals who work in the CBD or at the Townsville Hospital. The suburb has a fresh, new-build feel with wide streets, new parks and landscaped median strips, but local amenities are still developing.

Housing in Julago is almost exclusively brand-new single-storey rendered block and steel-frame homes built to modern standards. The typical home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a double garage with internal access, ducted air conditioning and an open-plan living area. Block sizes range from 400 to 600 square metres — smaller than the older suburbs but consistent with modern estate design. All driveways are sealed, garages are wide and access is flat throughout. This is one of the easiest suburbs in Townsville for our crew to operate in — no stairs, no narrow hallways, no understorey complications.

Julago is accessed from the Bruce Highway via the southern interchange and connecting estate roads. The internal street network is modern, wide and purpose-built for residential traffic. There is no through-traffic and the streets are designed with large cul-de-sacs and court bowls that give our truck excellent turning and parking space. The main consideration is construction traffic within the newer stages of the development — concrete trucks, builder vehicles and unsurfaced roads can affect access to some properties. We check the status of your particular stage before the move and plan around any construction activity.
