It marks the transition point between the established inner suburbs and the rapidly growing northern corridor. Residents here tend to value space and privacy — the blocks are large, the neighbours are distant and the pace is slower than anything south of Woolcock Street.
Housing in Bohle is scattered and varied. Older properties are typically elevated timber or steel-frame homes on one-to-five acre lots with large sheds, water tanks and established gardens. Some of these properties have gravel driveways and unsealed access roads. Newer builds closer to the highway are standard brick-and-tile on smaller residential lots. The acreage homes require more planning for a move — longer carry distances, wider equipment requirements and sometimes poor driveway surfaces that affect truck access.
The Bruce Highway runs through Bohle, providing direct access north to the Bushland Beach corridor and south to the Woolcock Street interchange. Moving Day in Bohle
Bohle jobs take more preparation than a standard suburban move. We send the driver out the day before to check the property access, measure the driveway width and identify any soft spots on unsealed sections. This morning we are heading to a five-acre lot off Shaw Road — an older steel-frame home elevated on stumps with a massive machinery shed out the back.
We arrive at six-thirty and park the truck on the concrete pad near the shed. The shed is the first priority — a ride-on mower, two chest freezers, shelving units of tools and a collection of camping gear that fills an entire bay. Each item gets tagged with a location label so it goes to the right spot at the new place.
The house has external stairs up the front and a wide verandah that serves as the staging area. Furniture comes out through the front door and is stacked on the verandah before being carried down the stairs to the truck. The fridge has to come down the stairs on its side — we strap it to a stair trolley and control the descent with two crew members.
By ten o'clock the house and shed are cleared. The drive north to the new place in Deeragun takes twelve minutes along the highway. The new block is a standard residential lot with a double garage, so unloading is fast and straightforward. We are done by one o'clock, including reassembly of beds and placement of all the shed gear in the new shed.
