Moving Day in Toowong
Toowong keeps our crew busy — we do more apartment moves here than just about anywhere else on the westside. A typical job starts with our driver calling the building manager from the truck to confirm the loading dock is clear and the service lift is keyed on. Most of the towers along Sherwood Road and around Toowong Village give you a two-hour lift window, so we work fast.
Our two-person crew brings a tall trolley and furniture runners up first, lays protection across the lift floor and the corridor to your unit, then starts loading from the furthest room out. Beds get dismantled, mattresses go into plastic covers, and we stack boxes on the trolley in groups of six. It is a tight rotation — one bloke loads the trolley in the apartment while the other runs it down to the truck. A one-bedroom unit usually takes about ninety minutes. A two-bedroom with a balcony full of pot plants and outdoor furniture pushes it closer to two and a half hours.
For the older houses and townhouses on the hill streets off Miskin Street and High Street, the challenge is different. Steep driveways, limited street parking, and lots of stairs. We sometimes need to park the truck one street over and trolley everything across. The Queenslanders up on Jephson Street have beautiful verandahs but the hallways are tight — bedroom doors are narrower than modern standard, so we disassemble bed frames and remove lounge legs before carrying them through.
