Tips for a Smooth Malanda Move
Allow for the Palmerston Highway's winding sections.
The Palmerston Highway between Innisfail and Malanda is one of the more demanding mountain roads in Far North Queensland, with tight bends and steep gradients throughout. Removal trucks take this route more slowly than a regular vehicle — factor at least an extra hour into your schedule compared to a car journey.
Dress for Tablelands temperatures.
Malanda sits above 700 metres and can be genuinely cold, particularly in winter mornings from June to August. Temperatures can be 10 degrees or more below coastal Cairns. Dress in layers on moving day and have a warm meal planned for the crew if you're doing a full-day move.
Prepare farm access roads before moving day.
If your property has an unsealed driveway or access track, check it after any recent rain before the moving day. Soft ground can cause a heavily loaded truck to sink or become bogged. Gravel or crushed rock on soft sections helps enormously.
Book early for rural property moves.
Malanda is one of the more remote Tablelands destinations and our availability fills quickly for full-day jobs. Book at least three to four weeks ahead for moves involving a whole house or farm contents, particularly during school holidays and the dry season from June to September.
